솔직히 개인적으로 리비아의 독재자 가다피가 현재 반군들과 벌이는 전투에서 수많은 리비아인들의 희생이 있음을 안타깝게 여기고 있고 가다피의 오랜 독재가 이제 그만 막을 내렸으면 하는 마음입니다. 여기 소개하는 글은 미국의 반전운동 단체인 'Answer Coalition' 의 리비아에 대한 미국과 유엔의 전쟁에 반대하는 성명서입니다. 많이 동감하는바 있어 부족하나마 전문 번역해 올립니다.
참고로 'Answer Coalition' 은 반전운동과 인종차별에 반대하는 운동을 하는 단체입니다.

유엔 안전 보장 이사회는 리비아 국민에 대한 폭격 전쟁을 승인했습니다. 비행 금지 구역을 허가하는 결의안은, 프랑스와 영국등의 제국주의 우방국들과 함께 미국의 적극적인 개입으로 성사 되었습니다. 결의안은 또한 리비아에 대해 "모든 필요한 조치를" 취할수있는 권한을 부여 하였습니다.
결의안 표결이 있기전, 미 국무장관인 힐러리 클린턴은 전쟁의 드럼을 두드렸습니다 : "비행 금지 구역을 설정하기 위해서는 비행기와 조종사들을 보호하기 위해 리비아의 방어망 시스템들 같은 폭격의 목표를 포함하는 특정의 행동을 필요로합니다. ... [리비아 지도자 무아마르 가다피는 물러나야 합니다. "
클린턴은 또한 가다피에 대하여 인종차별적인 악마화 시도를 조장 하였습니다. 이러한 방법은 미국이 흔히 침략의 전쟁을 정당화 시키는 방법들입니다 : "가다피가 물러나지 않으면 그는 문제를 일으킬 것입니다. 그것이 바로 그의 본성입니다. 이 세상에는 그와같은 문제아들이 몇 있습니다."
언론들은 그러한 폭격이 곧 시작될수 있다고 말합니다. 미국의 반전 운동은 미국 혹은 미국의 지배하에 있는 유엔의 어느 회원국에 의한 어떠한 군사적 개입에 대하여도 명확한 반대 입장을 취해야만 합니다.
미국/유엔의 개입이 리비아 국민들에게 "민주주의" 또는 "자유"를 가져다 줄수는 없습니다. 미국 정부에는 "인도적인 개입"같은 건 애초부터 아예 없습니다. 진보적인 사람들은 리비아 국민의 운명에 대하여 "깊은 우려"를 표명하는 백악관, 국무 장관과 국방부에 의해 사용되고있는 가짜 인도주의 구호의 마스크를 찢어 버려야 합니다.
미국 정부는 이집트의 독재자 호스니 무바라크를 그의 잔인한 독재 지배의 마지막 순간까지 지원하고 도와 주었던 똑같은 정부라는 사실을 기억하시기 바랍니다.
그리고 지금, 그들은 리비아의 내부 반란에 대한 가다피와 리비아 정부의 폭력의 사용을 비난하고 있으면서도 미국 정부는 - 사우디 아라비아내의 대리인/꼭두각시 왕정을 통하여 - 지난 몇주동안 벌어지고있는 바레인의 시위들을 난폭하게 억누르기 위하여 무기와 돈을 대며 군대를 보내고 있습니다.
어떻게 미국 정부가 "인도주의적 개입." 이라는 말을 차마 입밖에 꺼낼수가 있습니까.
미국 정부는 오직 자신의 전략적 이익을 위해서만 행동을 취합니다. 이것은 거대 석유업체, 월가의 은행가들과 대규모 기업의 이익을 의미합니다. 일반 근로자들은 미국의 전쟁과 개입을 통해 얻을수 있는것이 아무것도 없습니다.
리비아는 아프리카 최대의 석유 보유국 입니다. 워싱턴은 이 사실을 잘 알고 있습니다. 미국은 석유 공급을 통제하고 리비아 영토내에 미군 기지를 허용할수 있는 안정적인 친미 리비아 정부가 들어서는것을 바라고 있습니다.
리비아에 대한 어떠한 유엔/미국의 개입도 미국의 이라크 침공과 마찬가지로 리비아의 인민들을 해방 시켜줄수는 없습니다. 1990 년대 초에, 미국, 프랑스, 영국은 인도주의 명목하에 이라크에 비행 금지 구역을 설정 하였습니다. 유엔의 제재와 더불어 결국에는 백오십만 이상의 이라크인들이 살해 되었으며 , 비행 금지 구역은 나라를 절름발이로 만들었으며, 2003 년의 "충격과 공포"의 침략전이 있을때까지 이라크에 대한 계속된 폭격을 허용 하였습니다.
8년 후인 지금, 또 다른 백만명의 이라크인들이 사망했고 이라크내에 4 백만명의 이재민이 생겼으며, 나라는 폐허가 되었지만 이라크는 여전히 미군의 점령하에 있습니다.
역사적으로 보면 미국이 개입하고 점령한 나라들에서 미군이 점령국에서 결코 떠난적이 없습니다. 아프카니스탄, 이라크 그리고 셀수없는 수많은 미국이 개입되었던 나라들을 통한 학습이 모두 이러한 것이 너무나 사실이라는 것을 보여주고 있습니다. 이러한 일이 또 다시 리비아의 운명이 되지 않도록 합시다.
이라크에 대한 침략 범죄의 8 주년이 되는 3월 19일에, 수많은 사람들이 리비아의 국민에 대한 공격 계획을 포함한 모든 미국의 전쟁에 반대하여 미 전역과 전세계의 길거리에서 시위를 벌일것입니다. 이것은 미국내의 반전 운동을 위하여 매우 중요한 문제입니다.

Stop U.S./U.N. military intervention against Libya!
The United Nations Security Council just approved a bombing war on the people of Libya. The resolution, authorizing a no-fly zone, was pushed hard by the United States, along with its French and British imperialist allies. The resolution also authorizes “all necessary measures” against Libya. Before the vote, U.S. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton beat the drums of war: “A no-fly zone requires certain actions taken to protect the planes and the pilots, including bombing targets like the Libyan defense systems. … [Libyan leader Muammar] Gaddafi must go.” Clinton also promoted a racist demonization campaign against Gaddafi, another way the U.S. justifies its wars of aggression: “If Gaddafi does not go, he will just make trouble. That is just his nature. There are some creatures that are like that.” The media is reporting that bombing could begin soon. The U.S. anti-war movement must take a clear stand against any military intervention by the United States or any member state in the U.S.-dominated United Nations. U.S./U.N. intervention will not bring “democracy” or “freedom” to the Libyan people. There is no such thing as “humanitarian intervention” for the U.S. government. Progressive people must tear the mask off the phony humanitarian slogans being used by the White House, the Secretary of State and the Pentagon about their “deep concern” for the fate of the Libyan people. Remember, this is the same government that funded and supported Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak up to the last minute of his brutal rule. And now, as they are condemning Gaddafi and the Libyan government for the use of violence against the revolt inside of Libya, the U.S. government—through its proxy/puppet monarchy in Saudi Arabia—is arming, financing and sending troops to Bahrain to violently suppress the protests that have been happening for weeks. How dare the U.S. government even speak of “humanitarian intervention.” The U.S. government only takes action to forward its own strategic interests. This means the interests of Big Oil, Wall Street bankers and massive corporations. Working people gain nothing through U.S. wars and interventions. Libya has the largest oil reserves in Africa. Washington knows this. It would like nothing more than to have a stable client government in place that would allow U.S. bases on the ground and control of the oil supply. Any U.S./U.N. intervention against Libya will not liberate the people of Libya any more than the U.S. invasion of Iraq did. In the early 1990s, the United States, France and Britain imposed a no-fly zone on Iraq on supposed humanitarian grounds. Along with U.N. sanctions, which eventually killed over 1.5 million Iraqis, the no-fly zone crippled the country and allowed continued bombing up to the “Shock and Awe” invasion in 2003. Now, eight years later, another 1 million Iraqis have died and 4 million have been internally displaced, the country is in ruins and is still occupied by the U.S. military. When the U.S. intervenes and occupies countries, history shows that U.S. military forces never leave the occupied country. The lessons of Afghanistan, Iraq and countless additional U.S. interventions reveal this to be all too true. Let this not be the fate of Libya. On March 19, the eighth anniversary of the criminal invasion of Iraq, thousands of people will demonstrate in the streets across the country and the world against all U.S. wars, including any planned attack on the people of Libya. This is a critical issue for the anti-war movement in the United States.
